I've thought about my blog quite a bit over this past week and have wanted to get around to visit and see what's going on with some of the blogs I adore ... but life does get in the way ...
My MIL turns 99 today ~ yes, ninety-nine years ... what an amazing milestone and most likely she will make it to 100. It's a bit bittersweet for her since she has always been so proud of living on her own and being independent, but sadly, she has finally given in and moved in and is now living with my SIL.
She has fought this for years, still being able to care for herself ... cooking, bathing and doing all the everyday things we tend to take for granted. For years we have tried to convince her she should not live alone, but she wouldn't hear any of it ... she now has realized she should not be alone.
Mr. Charming and his 4 siblings now have the huge task of cleaning out her home of 46 years and getting it ready to be put on the market for sale. And here we are trying to downsize and rid ourselves of "stuff" and we are bringing more here! UGH!
I had been working on some little projects while packing and since the house situation came up, I hadn't had a chance to post so I'll share one of my accomplishments ... a picnic basket.
I found it in the garage when we were working on de-cluttering and I had forgotten I even had it ... it was kinda ugly and the top was missing, but I didn't want to throw it away, so I got the bright idea to spruce it up and maybe I'd enjoy it rather than it being up in the rafters of the garage.
So here she it ... spray painted gray and stenciled with a Laurel wreath. I dry brushed the trim around the top and bottom edge so it wasn't just all gray ...
I had a pretty plastic remnant I picked up from JoAnn's a few years ago and thought it would be the perfect liner for the basket.
I did a Google search for how to line a picnic basket and my search led me to none other than Carol from The Polka Dot Closet ... so thanks for the tutorial Carol!!
I should have tried to line up the pattern from the sides to the bottom and never even thought of it until it was done ~ oh well LOL!
I'm now thrilled with my picnic basket and think it looks so much nicer ... now it will get packed up and will be ready for my new house ... whenever that may be ...
I hope to get around and visit my blog friends this weekend after the BIG birthday party ... I have lots of catching up to do.
Hope you have a fantastic Labor Day weekend ... I can't believe it's here so quickly!
Thanks for your visit ~ Judi
